Dual Recoil Spring System
The dual Recoil Spring System (RSA) is a new Gen5 Glock pistols feature. This design improves the service life of recoil springs and enhances the unlocking of the barrel.
The RSA works by providing a softer, smoother recoil impulse. As a result, it improves shooting accuracy and reduces muzzle flips.
It also increases recoil spring service life, making it suitable for about 15,000 rounds. It is a considerable upgrade over the old recoil springs that only got you about 5,000 rounds before they started to fail.
In addition to the RSA, all Gen5 Glock pistols now come with an internal buffer. It helps keep the extractors from working too hard and can increase extraction to 6-8 ft. It can prevent jams.
Glock Marksman Barrel
The Gen5 Glock Marksman Barrel slightly enhances polygonal rifling to deliver improved accuracy. But it won’t turn a seasoned gun owner into a marksman.
It’s not even going to make much of a difference. You must be a sniper or an expert in pistol accuracy to see any real benefit from it.
Nevertheless, the Glock Marksman Barrel has a target-style crown and tighter chamber specs that help deliver increased accuracy. Those features are paired with a cold hammer-forged barrel that should last for years with regular use and cleaning.
Several other features of the Gen5 pistols include an nDLC surface finish, frame texture, reversible magazine catch, and ambidextrous slide stop lever. In addition, Gen5 pistols have swappable backstraps in two sizes.
New Finish
The Gen5 is an excellent upgrade over the Gen4 models, and it’s worth looking into for any shooter interested in a reliable pistol that’s easy to carry and manage. Of course, it’s only for some, but it can be a handy tool.
Glock has always been known for its tough and resilient finish, but the company has now upped the ante with a new slide coating called nDLC. This unique finish is designed to be even more corrosion-resistant and wear-resistant than the original Tenifer/Melonite (gaseous ferritic nitrocarburizing) process used on Gen1 Glock pistols.
The slide on the Gen5 pistols is now coated with nDLC, which is more attractive and durable than the original Tenifer finish. It is also much more weather and corrosion-resistant than the Gen4 slide.
